Personal update: I started a new job!
I’m actually still working for the same people; although I had gotten very restless in my Paralegal role, I was reluctant to look elsewhere because I really do love my company. But just when it was getting to the point where I didn’t think I had any choice other than to start looking for something that would engage my interests and/or utilize my skills (because that really, really wasn’t the case before), a fortuitous series of events led to a very different position in a very different team suddenly materialising in front of me. And not only a different job, but the perfect one – seemingly tailor-made for me.
My official title is now ‘Global Internal Communications Specialist’ (which I find a little funny, given this is my first experience of anything Communications-related) and I’d best describe the role as being somewhere between journalism and marketing.
I absolutely love it.
I spend almost all my time writing, and the rest of it either editing other people’s writing, brainstorming interesting new ways to engage people in whatever project we’re working on, or making things look aesthetically pleasing for our internal ‘social media’-type platform. I’m going to be working on the next edition of our employee magazine soon and I genuinely can’t wait to get started.
It feels rather strange that this is my job now. If you’re reading this blog, you’ve probably realised that writing is something of a hobby of mine – only somehow, now I’m being paid to do it. It almost feels wrong, but in the best possible way. You don’t come to work to do things you enjoy? Although it’s a situation I always aspired to end up in, it’s not one I’m accustomed to in practice and really, not one I was anticipating being in until some undefined point much later in my career. It’s a bit confusing, actually.
Suffice to say, I feel extremely lucky – not to mention super excited. I can’t wait to see where this change, this new job takes me.
And in the meantime, I’m very happy to be having fun with it!
Congratulations on the job. I have worked in communications for 25 years and it is a lot of fun. Mostly. Enjoy!
